In 2012/13, Oli won a competitive tender to design, create and implement a multi-strand Ulster-Scots heritage trail experience for visitors to Lisburn, Newtownabbey and Carrickfergus Councils in Northern Ireland. Oli’s solution is now operative and at its heart lies a high-end iOS and Android app for each council, with three rich and engaging audio driving trails.  Each trail comprises 15 individual points of interest which highlight all of the Ulster-Scots themed sites, history and stories in the three council areas.

In addition to their rigorously researched scripts, the tours also include a number of “vox pops” to enhance the Ulster Scots’ themes and stories. These include interviews with local experts, characters, poetry and music. In addition to this, 12 interpretative panels were installed at key sites across the three council areas.

Visitors are provided with clear, concisely written content and historically accurate imagery. In addition to this, visitors also have the option to access additional layers of information using the iBeaken QR codes embedded into these panels, allowing visitors with smartphones to access this additional content that includes imagery, audio and video content. For visitors who may be less technology orientated, Oli also produced a number of high quality Printed Materials for the project, including a series of easy-to-follow brochures and maps for each trail.
